What Grace Looks Like?

A reading for Wednesday, May 7, 2014: Matthew 3:13-17.

What does God's grace look like for you?

In the story today, the dove descends upon Jesus with the words, “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” This is what grace looks like.

It reminds us of the dove that brought the olive branch to Noah after all was destroyed in the flood. It was a sign to start again. This is what grace looks like.

Perhaps even the dove sacrificed in the temple, and in the tent of meeting before that, prescribed in Leviticus and practiced for a thousand years as a sin offering. This is what grace looks like.

Baptism is a visible sign of God's invisible grace. It's a gift. It reminds us of a dove. Martin Luther said, "Today when you wash your face, remember your baptism." This is what grace looks like.
